When a person consumes a substance (e.g., alcohol,) or engages in an activity (e.g., gambling, shopping) that can be pleasurable but the continuation of which becomes compulsive and interferes with ordinary responsibilities and concerns, such as work, relationships, or health, the condition is called as addiction. People who have developed an addiction may not be aware that their behavior is out of control and causing problems for themselves and others.

Addiction is a treatable condition. The first phase of treatment is withdrawal from the problem substance/activity, but when they are not able to withdraw from such substance/activity, hypnotherapy helps to achieve that.
Hypnotherapy is done only when the addict wants to get rid of an addiction. It is usually a set number of sessions in which the root cause behind the addiction is dealt first and then an addiction free healthy life script is given to them which they have to practice for 21 days through self-hypnosis. This helps them to stick to the new healthy habits.
